Dr. Borrelli graduated from Medaille University in 2023 with her PsyD in Clinical Psychology and is in supervised practice at West Niagara Psychology Centre. Dr. Borrelli's primary areas of work include both comprehensive assessment and treatment of adolescents and adults. Dr. Borrelli provides psychological assessments for adolescents and adults to assess for learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and behavioral challenges, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and personality disorders. Dr. Borrelli provides interventions (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to individuals with trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders.

In addition to clinical work, Dr. Borrelli has contributed to efficacy research for psychological interventions and animal models of central nervous system structure and function.

Biography

Professor Carolina Bottari is an occupational therapist who specializes in cognitive disorders following a traumatic brain injury. She is a full professor in the School of Rehabilitation of the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal and scientist at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal.

Professor Bottari holds a PhD in rehabilitation sciences from Université de Montréal and a CIHR-funded postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at McGill University. She started her academic career after over 10 years as a clinician working with people with brain injury. She is an internationally recognized and widely published researcher, with 90 published articles and 300 abstracts. She has attracted a total of more than $11 million in external grant funding and recently received the award of excellence for her outstanding career from the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec. In recognition of her work with vulnerable populations, in 2014 Professor Bottari was awarded the prize for social responsibility from the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal.

Professor Bottari is currently leading several largely funded intersectoral grants seeking to put into place an ecosystem of care around women victims of intimate partner violence at risk of having sustained a traumatic brain injury.

Biography

Dr. Carolina Bottari, OT, Ph.D., is a full professor in the occupational therapy program at Université de Montréal, Canada. She is also a researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal. Her research studies have largely focused on individuals having sustained a traumatic brain injury. Dr. Bottari is currently leading an international project working to develop and test smart home technologies designed to offer graded cognitive assistance during meal preparation to individuals with severe traumatic brain injury living within the community. She has vast expertise in co-design studies with community partners, particularly for projects funded by CIHR, MEDTECH, AGE WELL and FRQ, targeting the development of smart home technologies to meet the needs of an aging population with cognitive deficits and a TBI population. She has published 90 peer-reviewed articles and supervised over 100 graduate students

An Assistive Technology for Cognition for Clients with Acquired Brain injury: The Concept Map of a User-Centred Design Process and Procedure

Biography

Sophie Lecours holds a PhD in neuropsychology from the Université the Montreal and has significant clinical experience, particularly in the rehabilitation of individuals with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). She has also worked in the community sector, where she developed support and training services for caregivers. Her deep interest in physical, cognitive, and mental health has also driven her to contribute in parallel to various clinically oriented research projects. In recent years, she has focused on participatory research, joining a pan-Canadian team aimed at optimizing strategies to support individuals with TBIs during the pandemic and beyond. She is currently a professional researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal (CRIR) – Institut universitaire sur la réadaptation en déficience physique de Montréal, where she collaborates with a multidisciplinary team consisting of occupational therapists, legal and criminology experts, and key representatives from a provincial organization for women's shelters. Together, they have initiated a three-year multi-phase, community-based research project aimed at addressing traumatic brain injuries among women survivors of domestic violence. The primary goal is to collaboratively develop a sustainable ecosystem of care with all key stakeholders involved in supporting this population.

Alyssa P Herzog PT, DPT received her BS from SUNY Oneonta in Biology in 2010, and DPT from Russell Sage University in 2014. Dr. Herzog is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy from the APTA. Dr. Herzog has treated patients in both adult and pediatric populations in the acute rehabilitation environment since 2014. She has played an integral role in the implementation of High Intensity Gait Training and creation of an outsourced pediatric unit at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington DC where she is currently a Senior Physical Therapist. Dr. Herzog has previous speaking experience locally and nationally including American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, Academy of Neurological Physical Therapy, Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy conferences on neurological rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, knowledge translation and implementation.

Jane Bradshaw is a titled pain physiotherapist with 35 years of experience in working in gerontology, chronic pain and rehabilitation. She works at the Be Pain Smart Clinic at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. Jane completed a Masters in Health Care Service Management at the University of Tasmania in 2021 and has researched the importance of kindness, listening, and connection in Chronic and Complex Care. She is now a PhD student at Notre Dame University researching human flourishing in the traumatic brain injury population in the first two years after injury. The aim of the research is to codesign an intervention using the expertise of those with lived experience of TBI to improve the outcomes for patients with TBI in an patient brain injury unit in Sydney.

Biography

Ms Anne Brannagan OBE, DIPCOT, MSc, qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1988 from the London school. She did a two year orthopaedic rotation before specialising in Neurorehabilitation at the Defence Services Rehabilitation Centre Headley Court. She gained a research master's degree with distinction from Kings College in 1993. Ms Brannagan is particularly interested in the cognitive and executive sequelae of acquired brain injury. She runs workshops with Kit Malia, training both professionals working in the field and carers of brain injured individuals around the country. In addition, she has lectured on cognition at conferences in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Spain, The Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Slovenia, Belgium, Australia and the USA. She held the position of Chair for the College of Occupational Therapy Specialist Section Neurological Practice from September 2003-2006. She has been active in writing clinical guidelines for patients with ABI. Ms Brannagan has developed a number of rehabilitation activities, including a practical approach to the assessment of executive problems (The Brannagan Executive Functions Assessment) following brain injury and cognitive/psychosocial groups. Her most recent roles were Neurological Team Manager & Complex Trauma Manager at Headley Court where she was responsible for managing the two multi-disciplinary teams. She was awarded the OBE in January 2010 for services provided to rehabilitation.

Lisa A. She is the current Chair of the International Brain Injury Association and a Past President of Division 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as an APA Fellow. She serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation. Her primary area of research interest is traumatic brain injury, co-morbid psychiatric disorders, and negative psychiatric outcomes, including suicide. Dr. Brenner has numerous peer-reviewed publications, participates on national advisory boards, and has co-authored a book titled: Suicide Prevention After Neurodisability: An Evidence-Informed Approach. She is also a co-editor of APA Handbook of Rehabilitation Psychology (3rd Edition) and is the current editor of the Oxford University Press Academy of Rehabilitation Psychology Series.

Biography

Dr. Abigail Bretzin is a Research Investigator and member in the Department of Emergency Medicine and member of the Michigan Injury Prevention Center. Before joining the Michigan Injury Prevention Center, Dr. Bretzin completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, gaining advanced training in epidemiology. During her postdoctoral studies, she also completed NIH funded training programs in sleep and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Bretzin earned her PhD in Kinesiology at Michigan State University. Dr. Bretzin’s research includes primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of traumatic brain injury (TBI), specifically sport-related concussion. Her research examines the epidemiology of concussion and TBI, related health disparities, and long-term outcomes of the injury and repetitive head impact exposure. Dr. Bretzin is also a member of the Data Coordinating Core of the Ivy League – Big Ten Epidemiology of Concussion Study, leading analyses and study dissemination activities. Her research also engages under-represented communities, with attention to male and female differences in sport-related concussion incidence and outcomes.

Dr Melissa ‘Liss’ Brunner
Liss is a lecturer in the Acquired Brain Injury Communication Lab at the University of Sydney. She is an early career researcher and certified practicing speech pathologist with over twenty years of experience in the assessment and management of adults with swallowing and communication difficulties. Liss has clinical and research expertise in acquired neurologic disorders, and her research experience and collaborations extend across interdisciplinary health care contexts, with specialist skills in qualitatively driven social media and digital health mixed methods research. Her doctoral research laid the necessary groundwork in understanding the complexity of the issues surrounding people with TBI using social media and how it may (or may not) be addressed during their rehabilitation. Through using social media for research translation (in particular on Twitter/X as @LissBEE_CPSP), her research has gained exposure globally, generating conversations and driving change to create better opportunities for participation and inclusion of people living with an acquired brain injury.

The presenting author is a psychiatrist working in Huize Padua Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuropsychiatry and Brain Injury, which is a tertially referral hospital and part of the mental health institute “GGZ Oost-Brabant”, located in the south of the Netherlands. He is also appointed as a liaison psychiatrist in multiple rehabilitation centres. He holds a PhD in psychiatry from Radboud University Nijmegen. His current scientific research focuses on social cognition disorders after brain injury for which he is affiliated with the Limburg Brain Injury Centre at Maastricht University.
He is a registered epidemiologist and head of the residency training program at GGZ Oost-Brabant.

Librada Callender is a clinical epidemiologist and research investigator at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas, TX with >15 years of research experience. She is a Co-Investigator for the National Institute of Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)-funded North Texas Traumatic Brain Injury Model System and Baylor Scott & White Spinal Cord Injury Model System. She is the principal investigator for a NIDILRR-funded Field Initiated Project adapting a healthy lifestyle intervention to be culturally relevant for Latino persons post stroke and available in Spanish. Her research has focused on neuro-rehabilitative populations (e.g., traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and stroke) across the continuum of care and health disparities, healthcare utilization, and health promotion. Her research passion is to remove obstacles for people with disabilities, especially among those with intersectional disparities.

Alvin Chang, MD, is a dedicated physiatrist with a strong focus on brain injury medicine, cultivated during his PM&R residency at Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare. Dr. Chang’s clinical interests include the management of concussions, spasticity, and moderate/severe traumatic brain injuries, where he combines evidence-based rehabilitative techniques with patient-centered care. His passion for research lies in exploring the role of biomarkers to better predict recovery outcomes in brain injury patients, and explore treatment options for concussion management.

Dr. Chang believes that teamwork is critical to success in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and other medical specialties. His experience as a collegiate track and field athlete taught him the value of resilience, collaboration, and leadership—qualities he applies to his medical practice as he works alongside interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care.

With a goal of pursuing a brain injury fellowship, Dr. Chang remains committed to advancing the field through both clinical practice and research, aiming to enhance outcomes for brain injury patients and improve prognostic tools for recovery.

Dr.Wan Lin Chen was born and raised in Taiwan. She completed her M.D. degree in 2000 and completed neurosurgical residency in 2006, when she was also board certified.
While at first few years of attending physician, she was board certified as Aviation Medicine Doctor due to an immense interest in aviation. She made a drastic turn in career path and worked for International SOS, a multinational corporation specialized in medical and security risk management. The reason was to maximize options by learning in a complex business arena. Taipei Office has won the best center of medical transport in 2009 under her leadership. During the years, she had worked her way up and was appointed Medical Director of Great China region in 2017. During her years in International SOS, she completed her PhD study in the School of Public Health of Taipei Medical University in 2018.
In 2019 she made a change again to be back to clinical and academia setting while continued work at International SOS as Medical Advisor in Asia Region. Currently, she is the Intensivist and Director of Neurotrauma and Critical Care in Taipei Neuroscience Institute(TNI). Dr. Chen’s research focus has been public health, critical care and medical resources allocation, particularly emergency air medical services.

He has also worked in a Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinic, Vestibular Clinic, and was Director of the Day Rehabilitation and Chronic Pain Management Clinics. After beginning his teaching career as an adjunct professor in 2000, Dr. Chiacchiero became full-time faculty in 2008. Meeryo Choe, MD grew up in the Los Angeles area, traveled east to attend Amherst College, where she majored in Fine Arts completing a senior thesis in Printmaking. She is currently an Associate Professor in Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Neurology, at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and the Program Director for the Child Neurology Residency Program. She is also the Associate Director of the UCLA Steve Tisch BrainSPORT Program, and helps oversee its mission, providing clinical care for injured student athletes, performing clinical research in pediatric traumatic brain injury TBI, and educating the community about sports-related concussion. Her research focuses on clinical outcome after pediatric TBI, with interests in post-concussive autonomic dysfunction and gender disparities in concussion incidence and recovery. She was a co-author on the CDC’s pediatric mTBI review and guidelines published in JAMA Pediatrics, and is a site-PI for the CARE4Kids U54, a multi-institutional longitudinal pediatric concussion study. An avid equestrian and former swimmer, Dr. Choe coaches as well, giving her a unique perspective on an athlete’s desire to return to his/her sport and the outside pressures they might experience.

Valentine Chouquet is a PhD student in the Empenn team at Inria, Rennes. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Radiology in Le Havre, followed by a Master's degree in Health Biology, with a specialization in Signal and Imaging in Medical Biology at the University of Rennes. During her Master's 2 internship, also within the Empenn team, she explored the subject of this abstract.

Throughout her studies, Valentine Chouquet has developed a strong interest in medical imaging, particularly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and has strengthened her expertise in this field. Her research focuses on the impact of mild traumatic brain injury in children on neurodevelopment. Her thesis, untitled "Study of Changes in Brain Structure and Function Following Concussion in Young Children," combines her knowledge of MRI and medical imaging with her interest in studying pediatric mild traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Vincy Chan is an Assistant Scientist at the KITE Research Institute, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University Health Network. She is also an Assistant Professor (Status) at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. She received her PhD in Rehabilitation Science and MPH in Epidemiology, both from the University of Toronto. The overall goal of her research program is to optimize long-term health, health service use, and health outcomes of individuals with traumatic brain injury using a lifespan perspective. Dr. Chan was the recipient of an Early Career Award from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and a National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research Early Career Research Award from the United States National Institutes of Health.

Amy Cook is currently finishing her final year of residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Cook grew up in the Ottawa area and gained early experience working with people with brain injury through coaching adaptive skiing. She completed her Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences with a Minor in Life Sciences undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa in 2012. John D. Corrigan, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Ohio State University and Director of the Ohio Valley Center for Brain Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation. For more than 40 years he has treated, studied and advocated for persons with traumatic brain injury. Dr. Corrigan is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation. He has been the PI and co-PI of the Ohio Regional Traumatic Brain Injury Model System since 1997 and chaired the Executive Committee of the TBI Model Systems Project Directors from 2007-2017. Dr. Corrigan is the National Research Director for the Brain Injury Association of America and has previously served other national organizations, including CARF, the Injury Control Center at CDC, the Veterans Administration and the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Health Board. Since 2013 he has served as the Director of the Ohio Brain Injury Program, which is the designated lead agency in the state of Ohio for policy and planning related to living with brain injury. He has more than 200 peer reviewed publications and has received many awards for his service and research in brain injury rehabilitation, including the Brain Injury Association of America’s William Fields Caveness Award, the 2007 Robert L. Moody Prize, and the Gold Key Award from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.

She is a leader for therapy in the Implementation of High Intensity Gait Training knowledge translation project, inpatient spasticity rounds, vestibular evaluations, and the Kessler Institute Neurologic Residency program. She received a 2024 Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy Early Career Professional Award.

Biography

Dr. Sharma is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD. Her research interests are 1) blood based biomarkers of mitochondrial damage to relate the severity of brain injury, and multiorgan dysfunction due to metabolic failure. Her lab is also developing mitochondrial targeted therapeutics to prevent and treat acute and long term consequences of blast TBI.
